Kiwa was established in 2009 from the dream of a young married couple. The word Kiwa comes from Qiwa which means green in Quechua, the native language of the South American Andes, and the company has always been committed to nature conservation and social responsibility: the ingredients are collected by small farmers in the Andean regions of Ecuador organized into cooperatives, with fair working conditions and compensation.
Kiwa salty snacks are made from fruits, vegetables and tubers, without artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings. The company also works with local organizations to promote ancient varieties of native coloured potatoes. During the world’s most important food fair in Cologne, Kiwa won the award for “top innovation” in 2011. Kiwa is certified NO-GMO, Gluten Free, Direct Trade, Kosher Parve, RSPO – Sustainable Palm Oil, and is certifying itself as an organic farm.
